    • Q.

I bought a gas log set last year and I am looking to spruce it up a bit. What are some options I have?

      • A.

RH Peterson makes several accessory options for their vented log systems. Lots of our customers love to add a little pizazz to the set they purchased before. See accessory options here. Reply

    • Q.

What is a see-through log set?

      • A.

See-through systems are made for fireplaces that are open to two rooms. There is no back wall, it's open on the front and back side. For this configuration the log set will not have a back side, it's almost like having two log sets back to back. Reply

    • Q.

What are the main differences between Vented and Vent Free?

      • A.

Once you determine what type of fireplace you have, there are two main things to think about when considering a vented or vent free log set. 1) Are you looking for heat? - Vented Systems are going to be more for looks. Since you will have to keep your damper completely open, most of your heat is escaping out of the chimney. - Vent Free systems are the opposite. With the damper closed all of the heat produced by the log set is contained inside of the firebox, then spills out into the room. 2) Are you concerned about looks? - Vented systems are the best looking when burning. Because the flames are allowed to touch the logs, they provide a more realistic looking when burning. - Vent Free the flame cannot come in contact with the logs. The flame comes through spaces between the logs, which provides a clean burn. Reply

    • Q.

Is soot on my gas logs normal?

      • A.

With vented log systems, soot can be normal. You should not see a ton like on a wood burning fire, but there will be some marking where the flame comes in contact with the logs. Propane is a less clean gas and can produce more soot than Natural Gas. You can easily clean your gas logs, to remove most of the soot marks, but you will still see some of it. Although most customers like the marking because this makes the logs look more realistic. For an easy way to clean your gas logs try click here. Reply
